Looking west from 10K ft. up in northern New Mexico. Just down the road is Tierra Amarilla, then Chama.

My wife and I stopped along the highway (near this area) once, and amazingly for the entire 15 – 20 minutes we were there – not ONE OTHER CAR drove by! Total Peace, Quiet, Solitude and BEAUTY! Amazing…..Thanks for the reminder !

I know… Isn’t that great? 🙂 That highway, U.S. 64 from Tres Piedras to the intersection with U.S. 285, is usually closed for most of the winter, too.

What a great view! I took a pic here from what looks like the very same spot, (you were standing in a rest area, no?) There was still snow there when I passed through. Isn’t there an old drive-in theater out that way somewhere too?

That’s from the second “rest area” (no facilities, not even a picnic table) if you’re coming from Tres Piedras. I don’t remember any drive-in. Seems extremely unlikely! This image is cropped from a larger one for greater dramatic effect, heh.

When we stopped it was NOT a rest area….just pulled off to the side of the road, and again, for “Tourist Season” the time we were there, I was amazed that not a SINGLE other car passed along the highway at all for the entire 15 or so minutes we were there….TOTAL SANCTUARY! and unusual for sure, but we felt like the Beauty and Magnificence was ALL OURS! (for just a little while) It was PERFECT, and a great memory, so thanks again for the FOTO John!
