That’s a nice, sizable fireplace you got there, and it looks like doesn’t smoke very much unless you’ve been painting recently.
I gotta say, I’m not too keen on this dark grey on medium grey thing in the comment fields. Hard on the eyebones, as Pogo would say.

Well, a light-colored text field fights too much with the photo above. I tried all kinds of combinations. Always room for improvement, of course, so thank you for the observation.
BTW, I have that fireplace blocked off. It smokes like hell, very crude firebox design and half-collapsed besides.
No WONDER there’s so little smoke stain.
But see, the light grey on dark grey you use for “completed” posts is MUCH more readable than the editable version. And I don’t think it hurts the pictures. The editable area reminds me of trying to use an old-style, relective monochrome LCD screen back in the bad old days of notebooks. Or trying to read an LCD watch while wearing polorized sunglasses.

John, I’m mystified. Don’t know what you’re referring to. When you write a comment, it’s black on white. When it posts, it’s light gray on medium gray. What am I missing?
It’s only MSIE 8 that’s ugly. Chrome, Firefox, Safari work as described. I sent you an email with a screenshot so you can see what I’m whining about.

John: FIGURES!
John,
Love the shots from inside your house – looks like authentic southwestern living – and appealing! But I do have one question – Where’s the bong”?
“Where’s the bong?”
Now that is a good question: where IS the bong?!?
I knew you would understand and I had the funny feeling that you would respond instantly. Hope you are enjoying your 4th of July celebration, probably getting ready to celebrate Ms. Palin’s presidential run! OMG, that woman (as Bill would have referred to her) just won’t go away. Scary.
Applelinks adobe pix post with link didn’t …. post.
Maybe it’s the mix of upper and lower case in the URL, a unix-y thing I reckon.

Bill: Right on all counts, and give yourself points for intuition. My wife and I are going to walk up the empty dirt road in the dark around 9:00 p.m. and watch the town’s fireworks from several miles away, down in the valley. Hmm.
Michael: That could well be it. I can’t think of any other reason. Try another link and see how that works.
John,
You devil, or as the Navajo call them ” Chindi”. In fact in walking up that dark road I would keep my eyes, both the high one and the lower one, open for them! Walking around in the dark when I lived in Thoreau, NM always gave me the willies!
Take care and take in some of that pinion smoke for me!
Chindi, eh? Thanks for that. I’ll remember it, as well as all the rest.
(There will be piñon smoke on cool nights in August, you may be sure, and everyone can share.)
